SKILLS
PURPOSE
Introduction of wall support shift into an umbrella and developing concepts around possession and creating passing/shooting lanes. Particularly useful on the powerplay, but also useful in general offensive zone play
FOCUS
- Passing while moving
- Puck possession
HOW TO
- Three players start at the blue (1, 2, 3), coach with pucks
- Coach dumps puck in the corner. If players can handle this, let them do the dump.
- Player 1 retrieves. Player 2 goes to the half board (similar to a breakout, but we’re not breaking out – we’re on offense). Player 3 posts up as a point D.
- Player 1 passes to 2 at the half wall. Player 2 walks up the wall at the same time player 1 walks the blue.
- Player 2 passes to player 3 walking, who then shoots on net.
Rotation A: Cycle
- Player 3 now becomes player 1, 2 becomes 3, 1 becomes 2, and so on so that all three players run the drill in a continuous rotation. This adds an element of cycling into the drill.
Rotation B: Next Up
- Player 3 leaves the drill, player 2 becomes player 3, Player 1 becomes player 2, next player in line becomes player 1.
EXTEND
- Add a defender to pressure the walk.
- Add a defender to pressure the retrieve.
