SKILLS
PURPOSE
This is a high performance passing drill that builds heads up play to break “lane blinders” and develop consistent regrouping and zone entry concepts.
FOCUS
- Passing, passing, passing
- Identifying options quickly
HOW TO
- Four lines with the front of the lines halfway between the blue and top of the circles. This is key to generate speed and help with lower support on the initial pass. Add two cones or markers – one in each zone between the lines. Two lines (1 & 3) with pucks.
- Player 1 skates up through neutral zone and curls around cone. They receive a pass from 3 as they come around the cone, but not before they break up ice.
- At the same moment that 3 makes the pass, 4 begins to head up ice.
- 1 passes to 4 as soon as they turn up ice. 4 passes back to 1 before the blue. 1 & 4 go in 2v0.
- Immediately after 3 passes to 1, they now start the drill the other way by skating without a puck through neutral and around the opposite cone and receiving a pass from 1. 2 breaks and receives pass from 3 and so on.
