SKILLS
PURPOSE
Basic regrouping concepts with a D swing and stretch pass.
FOCUS
- Clean, tape to tape passes. There is no pressure, so there should be no missed passes.
- Communicating on the swing.
- Getting open on the flat, for the stretch pass and recognizing to drive or to pass.
HOW TO
- 4 lines of players (one in each corner and at each end of the blue line), two with pucks. Nets are set cross ice and should be fairly close to the boards to give as much “neutral” space as possible.
- At the same time, X1 starts with a puck and X2 skates without a puck toward the O players. X1 passes to O2.
- X1 and X2 cross and regroup. At the same time O2 swings the puck to O1.
- O2 stretch passes to X2.
- X1 and X2 go into the zone 2v0.
- After the stretch pass, the drill continues from the other direction with O1 and O2.
Since this is cross-ice it will move much quicker than the full ice. Players need to be ready and they need to make good, clean passes.
