SKILLS
PURPOSE
This drill works on playing with motion and timing to generate passing lanes and zone entry with maintained speed.
FOCUS
- Timing, timing, timing! While there are set routes, players can adjust that route to maintain timing and good passing lanes.
- Passing! With this drill being condensed, quick and accurate passes are a must!
- Attention to detail. While there is flexibility in the drill to maintain timing, there also is a lot of purpose and intent in the patterns for training good regrouping pattern habits.
HOW TO
- Line of players in opposite corner, coach near red with pucks.
- 1 skates up the wing and loops high in the neutral zone. 2 goes wide and posts up halfway in the near half of the neutral. 3 skates up the wing and wheels inside out and cuts across the zone.
- Coach passes to 2 on the post up. 2 passes or chips inside to 1, who quickly chips to 3 driving across.
- 1 drives the zone wide, 2 and 3 fill the gap lanes to form a triangle.
VARIATIONS
- Add a progression with D at the top. 1 passes to the D, who swing D to D then to the post up. D can then join the rush.
- Add defenders that have to gap up to the play and retreat to a 3v2 or 5v2.
