SKILLS
PURPOSE
This is primarily a goalie tracking drill. It works on adjusting to an angle off a pass (or rebound simulation), loading to the post, and adjusting back out to the short angle for a second shot, tracking through each movement/pass/shot and recovering fully to their feet.
FOCUS
- Tracking
- Intentional, controlled movement
- Square, angle, depth (SAD)
- Positional recovery
HOW TO
3+ SKATERS/COACHES
- Three players set up with 1 in the mid slot, 2 on the off-angle, and 3 low below the goal line. 1 and 3 have pucks, 2 will be the shooter.
- To start, the goalie will set up in a good stance square and on-angle to player 1.
- Player 1 will pass over to player 2. Goalie will track the pass and make the appropriate save selection on player 2’s shot. Ideally, player 2 will look short side, but can give alternate direction.
- Goalie will now push to the post, recovering to their feet first if necessary.
- Once the goalie is set on their post, player 3 will pass out to player 2.
- The goalie will again track this pass off the post to the angle and make the save. Players 1 & 3 can try for a rebound.
- After a few, switch sides so the goalie works both angles.
ONE SKATER/COACH
- Shooter sets up on the off-angle with pucks. Goalie sets up at the top of the crease.
- On command, the goalie pushes to the coach and makes a save on the shot. Ideally, coach looks short side to work on driving the puck to the corner.
- Goalie tracks the rebound, then recovers and sets up on the post.
- After a short set, goalie pushes back out to the coach for a second shot.
