SKILLS
PURPOSE
This skill-intense drill is designed to work on heads up awareness, drop passes, puck control, and shooting in a tight space. By hockey sense extension, this also works on concepts related to regrouping and cycling.
FOCUS
- Players need to make sure they are moving their feet with cross overs to gain speed
- Look ahead of the play to the next part of the play, not staring at the puck
- Shots on net
HOW TO
This drill can be run alternating out of each side but for illustration purposes, it is shown with only two corners.
- Line of players in opposite corners (one at blue and one at true corner), both with pucks. Tire or group of cones in the middle.
- First two players in line go with the first person carrying the puck.
- Player 1 drops the puck at the opposite side of the tire, just like in progression 1 & 2.
- both players continue around the tire.
- Player 2 picks up the puck on the opposite site (opposing line’s puck) while player 1 flanks wide and opens up.
- After Player 2 picks up the puck, they pass to player 1 then drive to the net creating a 2v0.
EXTEND
- Have players mowhawk or open up around the tire
- Have players park in front of the net for the next shot as a screen-tip-rebound
- Put in shooting parameters like only on the back hand, shoot from the perimeter or they have to make a move.
