Cycle to Net Drive
PURPOSE
Cycling and east-west play to create space and chaos. For goalies, it works tracking from corner to front with quick adjustments for rebounds.
HOW TO
- Players 1 & 2 set up at top of zone, pucks in both corners. Player 1 rushes to corner to pick up puck. 2 follows with smart delay for speed and gap.
- Player 1 uses boards to cycle to player 2 and curls toward net.
- Player 2 reads speed and gap to pass to player 1 for quick shot in slot.
- Player 1 releases to opposite corner to pick up puck. Curls around circle and looks for player 2 in slot for second quick shot.
FOCUS
- Cycling with good net drive
- balancing time, space, and speed with good hockey sense – ie, adjusting to the player and play
- Quick accurate passes and shots on net. A shot on net that doesn’t score but does create a rebound is better than a shot that misses completely.
VARIATION
- Player 2 can follow to oposite corner and replay the cycle from the opposite side instead of receiving pass for shot.
- Make into a 3 shot drill: Player 2 can go to the corner (coach’s choice for long or short turn) to get a puck and pass to 1 for shot after they take their shot from #2.
