SKILLS
PURPOSE
This drill works on playing with motion and timing to generate passing lanes and zone entry with maintained speed.
FOCUS
- Timing, timing, timing! While there are set routes, players can adjust that route to maintain timing and good passing lanes.
- Passing! The first pass is critical. If that first pass is off, it tends to throw the whole thing off.
- Attention to detail. While there is flexibility in the drill to maintain timing, there also is a lot of purpose and intent in the patterns for training good regrouping pattern habits.
HOW TO
- Line of players in opposite corners with pucks.
- 1 skates down the wing with a puck. As they begin to curl, they pass to the the corner.
- 2 now posts up at the half-board instead of the red line. 2 receives a pass from the corner (originally from 1).
- 2 will pass or chip into 1, who passes or chips (head-mans) to 3 in a long stretch pass. Three becomes F1 and F2 and F3 complete triangle.
- Once pass is made to player 1 from player 2, the opposite side starts.
EXTEND
- Run both sides at the same time. If enough bodies, we can even run out of four corners.
- If low on numbers, run out of one corner and have the coach make the initial pass to #1.
